Mosquito Control Resources for Middle Georgia
settingsMiddle Georgia summers are beautiful, warm, and great for spending time outside, but they are also prime mosquito season, and it starts earlier than most people expect.
Here is what most Macon homeowners do not realize: mosquito season starts in March and often runs through October. Mosquitoes do not need much. A bottle cap of standing water is enough to hatch a new generation. And beyond the itching, they are a legitimate health concern, capable of spreading West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, and heartworm disease in pets.
The good news? Early action makes a real difference. The steps you take in spring directly affect how many mosquitoes you are dealing with in July. That means:
- Eliminating standing water before breeding begins
- Managing vegetation where adult mosquitoes rest during the day
- Starting professional treatments before populations peak
The articles below cover DIY strategies, what actually works (and what does not), and what to expect from professional mosquito control.

Identifying Middle Georgia’s Mosquito Threats
Middle Georgia is home to several mosquito species thanks to our warm, humid climate. Some of the most common mosquitoes we encounter during our service include:
Asian Tiger Mosquito
The Asian tiger mosquito is black with distinctive white stripes on its body and legs. These mosquitoes are active during the daytime and will bite aggressively. The Asian tiger mosquito breeds in even small amounts of standing water, including:
- Planter saucers
- Tarps
- Gutters
Because it does not need much water to reproduce and lay eggs, this mosquito is often responsible for those backyard bug bites even when you cannot identify an obvious source of standing water.
Southern House Mosquito
The southern house mosquito has plainer brown coloring and is most active around dusk and nighttime hours. It is a primary carrier of West Nile virus in Middle Georgia. These mosquitoes breed in stagnant water sources like birdbaths and neglected pools. Because they thrive in stagnant and nutrient-rich water, it is common to see these pests around homes or properties with drainage issues or clogged storm drains nearby.
Yellow Fever Mosquito
While yellow fever mosquitoes may look similar to the Asian tiger mosquito, this species has a distinctive lyre-shaped pattern on its back. Like the Asian tiger mosquito, it is active during the daytime. It prefers to stay close to structures like homes and is known for resting indoors or in shady areas around windows and doors.
